Flooring Trim & Accessory Buying Guide
Choose your flooring first, then plan the profiles that finish doorways, changes in height, walls and stairs. A similar color does not guarantee that a molding fits the flooring thickness or installation detail.
Which profile belongs where?

Measure each opening before counting pieces
Make a separate line for every doorway, exposed edge and stair. Record its width, the finished floor heights on each side, the profile type and the product's supplied length. Plan cuts opening by opening rather than relying only on the total linear footage; an offcut may be too short for the next opening.
Example: three openings can require three separate finished lengths even if their combined measurement looks smaller than two stock pieces. Sketch the cuts first and confirm which joints, if any, are permitted by the installation instructions.
Stair nose and stair tread are different purchases
A stair nose finishes the front edge; a stair tread covers the step surface as part of its intended system. Check the product drawing, dimensions and installation method before deciding which item your staircase needs. Do not assume that a stair nose listing includes a full tread.
Do I need extra underlayment?
First check the flooring's attached backing and approved installation instructions. More padding is not automatically better or compatible. Confirm any separate moisture-control requirement for the subfloor, and ask for written compatibility guidance if the instructions are unclear.
